Redondo Beach will soon get its first community garden. Here’s how it happened

Menya Cole has been a gardener for as long as she can remember. She vividly remembers spending hours with her grandmother cultivating crops at a community garden in Torrance 35 years ago. “I just remember seeing her hands,” Cole said, “how they work, the produce that we took home to eat together.” Gardening is something Cole said she had hoped to do with her now teenage daughter. But Cole lives in an apartment in Redondo Beach with no outdoor space.

Redondo Beach OKs skatepark near pier, International Boardwalk

Redondo Beach skaters will have a new home near the city’s pier this summer, after the City Council approved plans this week for a skatepark across from the Redondo Beach International Boardwalk. The project, slated to be completed in late June, comes nearly five years after Redondo Beach resident David Bernier began pushing for a skatepark in the city.
